Hello world! It Shae - #EpicShae to some, Shanon to others, just don't call me late to my yoga classes.
I'm a small town girl with big world dreams. This summer I launched a blog. I guess that is what people do when they want to get the word out. Don't get my wrong, I've been writing blog posts for almost 10 years for EVERYONE ELSE. Now I think is the time to put that energy into my own blog. So here goes.
The first question you may be wondering if why #EpicShae. I'm not really what one would call an
"Epic" person. When I think of Epic I think of those people who Base Jump, Skydrive, free rock climb mountains, cure cancer (oh wait that's already been done but then where's the profit in curing cancer). Compared to THOSE things I'd say my epicness is a little underwhelming.
But alas, it was in the sunny, vibrant, and totally bodacious (harken back to Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - anyone, Beuller, Beuller?) land of Costa Rica. I had just finishing leading a retreat for 20 spectacular souls. My dear friend Sarah D, a delightful creature with a knack for words and wordplay, and whom I now refer to as my muse, and I were with five other women. We had safety helmets strapped to our heads, we were strapped into the harnesses and we had spent the better part of four hours zip lining through the jungle, hiking, and rappelling down 200' waterfalls. DOPE RIGHT!
Antics ensued, I can get pretty crazy when the adrenaline starts pumping so after our waterfall descent, covered in water, mud, reeling from a mix of fear and pride, I called out a variety of hashtags that would suit the occasion - all of course G-rated - I still spell HE-double-L-hockey sticks to my sons ages 18 and 21. So name dropping ensued of equally suitably hashtags and #EpicShae was born...the smile on my face verified that it was here to stay.
But again, there are many things about my that you would not consider EPIC. I tend to be a rather quiet sort. I have a calming personality that is immediately grounding for many people. I don't talk much. I rarely even listen to music. When you live a simple life it is hard to think of yourself as anything BUT simple. But that is exactly why it must be #EpicShae.
As Marianne Williamson would say....stop playing small. Here's the entire poem for your reading pleasure:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us;
It's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
So, #EpicShae is my embodiment of choosing not to play small, be small, or live small. I let my light, my life, my love shine to any and all around me. If it is too bright for you put on your sunglasses. Here's to an epic life of simple pleasures.
Until I write again...Hari Om Tat Sat.
